SWiSH for FLASH
And though I admit I am enamored with SWiSH Max (absolutely in love, really) as an authoring environment, at the same time I realize that this plush bed of roses can't truly be made of roses if I don't end up ramming into a few proverbial thorns. When I first became interested in honing my Flash authoring skills, I didn't know I had a choice. When I discovered SWiSH, I still did not know how easy it was in comparison to Flash. But the moment I opened up my first copy of SWiSH I knew that even I could make cool stuff. This thing is so easy to master, even the littlest of digital tots will be at home in this application.

Why use OpenSearch?
The web is a big place, and search engines that crawl the surface of the web are picking up only a small fraction of the great content that is out there. Moreover, some of the richest and most interesting content can not even be crawled and indexed by one search engine or navigated by one relevancy algorithm alone.
Different types of content require different types of search engines. The best search engine for a particular type of content is frequently the search engine written by the people that know the content the best.

One of the great outgrowths of the Web 2.0 phenomenon has been an increased availability of Web APIs – Internet-based services with an HTTP-based programming interface. Gone are the days when developers would furtively “scrape” HTML pages for data or useful information. 'Open-sourcing' key to the high-tech war against terrorism

According to the DoD Information Sharing Strategy, the vision describes
a future state where "transparent, open, agile, timely, and relevant
information sharing occurs to promote freedom of maneuverability across
a trusted information environment." To achieve this vision, the
strategy describes four goals that form the necessary environment
across the department. These include: (1) promote, encourage, and
incentivize sharing; (2) achieve an extended enterprise; (3) strengthen
agility in order to accommodate unanticipated partners and events; and
(4) ensure trust across organizations.
